So I totally forgot to negotiate with my dealership to NOT drill holes into the front bumper before buying the car :grumpy:

I ended up created bumper plugs to fill in the holes. This is something I learned from the G35 forums. It's quite simple to do. Here's the before and after pics and DIY. Of course do it at your own risk. I wont be responsible if you get a ticket, go to jail, or cause your car to have salvage title...etc...
Enjoy!

Sorry for the dirty car. Haven't washed it since it snowed last week.

Stuff you need:
3/16" nylon hole plugs from Lowes for about $1 and change. The size of your holes may be different so check it first.

Honda touch up paint. It comes in a Base and Top coat set. Lindsay Honda hooked me up for $16.70

It has a pen tip on one side and a brush on the other.

I used these cheap clamps to hold the plugs while painting them. I think it's a buck for a 6 pak of these at Harbor Freight.

Titleist wedge not necessary for project but nice to have just in case

I painted 3 layers of base coat and 3 of top coat. -Follow the instructions on the touch up paint bottle.

Ideally you want to negotiate the dealership to not drill into your car. This is more of a plan B.

Nice touch.

My Buckeye brother, I always go plate free illegally in Ohio but this car already had the plate up front along with the MDX. I finally put the frame on the old MDX when I put it up for sale 3 years ago and just left it on. So after 20 years with no plate on any car, I now have 3.

A lottery official in northern Ohio got pulled over and warned for not having a front plate on his car. He initially got in hot water when he later sent the trooper a bunch of scratch off tickets.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Tuesday March 31, 2009 1:43 PM

The head of the Ohio Lottery improperly gave 100 lottery tickets to a state trooper who pulled him over near Mansfield, the state watchdog said today.

The Ohio Inspector General's office faulted Michael A. Dolan, executive director of the Ohio Lottery, for giving the trooper 100 promotional lottery tickets after he was pulled over in January and not cited.

Dolan, a former Cleveland councilman whom Gov. Ted Strickland named to head the lottery in 2007, had been driving without a front license plate and was not wearing his seat belt. He told the trooper that he was on his way to Columbus to meet with Strickland.

He wrote a letter to the trooper, James M. Baker, thanking him for the "courtesy extended to me yesterday," and enclosed the lottery tickets.

Dolan told investigators that the lottery routinely issues promotional tickets to law enforcement agents and others.

But the inspector general said Dolan's actions were "lacking in sound judgment and improper." The report recommended the state establish a policy on such activities, but there were no further ramifications for Dolan.

Lol nice. I went 2 weeks with my new accord without my front plate here in Ohio before I got pulled over for it. My 7th gen didn't have a front plate for the 7 years a had it and never got pulled over for it. Go figure. I'm afraid to take mine back off now.

I have been pulled over twice from the front and neither time did the officer mention anything about the missing plate. You got pulled over because of the "5 Series like" profile of the '13 Accord .

WTF on the wedge? Lol.

Good job. Bumper plugs are popular, but still visible. I'm really happy LA doesn't require front plates.

Lol yeah well when the state trooper walks up next to the car and starts asking me where my front plate was since he had no other reason to pull me over?

We got rain forecasted all next week. No point in washing her now.

Nice! Will this work on the sedan? Jk

Did you have to drill out your holes any?
Nope. It was a snug fit. I used a microfiber towel and the butt end of a screwdriver to carefully push the plugs in.

Nice Job. I had the same problem but ended up get mines from bumperplugs.com I did feel a certain away about drilling into a new car but it was a easy install.

While I feel your pain, and I prefer the no front plate look myself, your state might have a law that says a new vehicle must be fully street legal when its delivered to the customer (including a fixed mounting point for the proper display of a front license plate, if required). And in case anyone was wondering, putting a license plate inside the front windshield is not technically legal.

Los Angeles does require front plates however in some areas they are not enforced as much.

He meant Louisiana. :)

The state of California requires front plates and the dealership has to mount them before the new owner takes possession of the car. I found this out the hard way, too. I wish they would design a mounting system for the 9th gens that doesn't require them to drill into the damn bumper though. My mom's 8th gen sedan had the front plate when we took delivery, but the bracket was mounted up and under the bumper. No holes when we took it off.

I had my bumper repaired and repainted since I had already gotten a giant chip from a piece of loose concrete flying off the road. Plugs are a great solution, though.

New Mexico doesn't require front plates, either, but my car came with the plate holder, so I thought this would look good up front.

You can see I nailed a bug or two on my trip to Moriarty and back today.

I guess I should paint my screws. :paranoid:

So I drove down a residential street today and a cop was traveling in the opposite direction of me. The cop definitely turned his head and tracked me as we drove past each other. He did not bother to do a u-turn to give me a ticket. He probably had bigger fish to fry I guess.

I'm a little confused.

Ohio has had a front plate law for more than twenty years and they don't enforce it, such that one member here has not complied with the law for twenty years?

Is this the case mostly in areas near state lines where chasing every car without a front plate would be futile?

It seems that all the authorities would have to do is put up a checkpoint the way they do DWI checkpoints here in NM and it would be easy to start sending the message and kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
