So I lent my parents my '14 Jetta for 3 months. Now they say they'd consider buying it off me since they need a car for 3.5 months each year when they live in CA and would rather not rent.

I've been renting a 2002 Accord V6 Coupe with w/208K miles on it from a mom/pop rental company. I'm so impressed with the quality of this car even after being a rental and taken abuse, the V6 is butter smooth even if it's attached to an old 4spd automatic. I love my Jetta but the grunt of the V6 is awesome. The new ones I imagine are probably much better. And I believe regular 87 gas is all that's required?

I'm thinking about getting a '15 V6 sedan. I like the coupe but sedan is more practical with the dog in the back (he loves sticking head out window). G/f sits in front.

A dealer an hour away said any '15 V6 EX-L they'll sell for $26,900 + tax/license. That seems like a screamer of deal being that's over $5K off MSRP. And the '16 doesn't seem that much different except for subtle styling changes.

Thoughts?

That price seems good, at least according to where I live ($29,124 in Los Angeles Truecar price)

And yeah, unless you want the latest tech and Android auto/Apple Carplay, I think it's a good deal.

Plus you get actual LED taillights instead of the LED bars on the 2016s.

I think you will find that the build quality is better on the 02 but the 15 engine is even better. Check "Honda accord prices paid Edmunds" but considering that I spent 27.1k before TTL for my 14 in may 2014 you can probably do 1-2k better especially since 2016's are out. Personally I would start negotiating at 25k and move from there.

Test drive it because many say that the car feels dead unless you get on it. Good luck.

If you don't need/want the new infotainment system of the '16 (Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) then take the deal on the '15.

There are more than subtle styling changes. Honda Sensing is pretty big. Other mechanical changes are more subtle. Improved rigidity, improved CVT performance, and a few others.

So if none of those blow your skirt up, go with the '15 knowing you got a great deal.

Thanks for the feedback. I could care less about the Infotainment stuff or Honda sensing. And CVT is irrelevant since I'm only interested in the V6. I'm just concerned really about ride quality. My Jetta rides like a dream for the most part. I don't want a choppy ride for sure. I'll test drive one locally and go from there. Thanks.

From what I've heard, the TLX is really quiet and rides comfortably. I can't say the same about the ride quality on the Accord.

Ok thanks. Maybe I'll just bag it and keep my Jetta 1.8T. Not as fast as the Accord for sure but it's still quick and very fun to drive. And I'll certainly be richer keeping it.
Any issues you've had with your Jetta while you've had it?

Drive one before you decide. Accords ride firmly. Some, like me, prefer that....some don't. If you were good with the '02 I don't think you'll find the '15 V6 objectionable.

I just picked up a 15 Sedan V6. I could have waited the two weeks for the 2016, but I'm not feeling the new front end. I would have liked the airplay/android auto but I got such a great deal on the 15, that my Garmin Nuvi suits me just fine.

If you test drive the 2015 V6, I bet you'll have to buy it. If you think the 2002 V6 is smooth wait til you drive the 2013+.

Who the heck said the car feels dead unless you get on it? Have you actually driven one?

Just go to the dealer and drive one and report back.

That would be me, sir and yes I own one. I was trying point out the upshift nature of the trans bet the 02 would be more responsive until you get on it.

If you want more power why not look into a GTI with the 2.0t? Puts out 40hp more than your Jetta and is a blast to drive and you won't sacrifice ride quality.

Plus I'm fairly certain now is a great time to get an AMAZING deal on one if you get my drift!

I picked up a '15 V6 EX-L over labor day weekend for $25,888 +TTL.
If you want one you better pick one up soon, they will all be gone soon!

I also thought for sure I would wait for the 2016 model, but decided I didn't like the new front grill and rims on the EX and aboves. Coupled with the crazy deals on the 2015 models, I pulled the trigger.

I came from a 2009 Honda Fit, so the power, features and NVH on the new car is huge upgrade!

My Dad has an '11 GTI (200hp instead of the new 210). Driven it a few times. It's a nice car but it never feels that fast unless you get the RPMs up. And the ride quality is pretty darn firm. Way harser than my Jetta and I'd guess it's firmer than the Accord as well. It also requires premium fuel.
