Who has done this mod? Did you use the Honda kit or did you use a cheaper option?

Is there one that has a switch that can be installed in the panel by the Eco button?

I see some of these cheaper kits and I'm sure they work fine, but I don't want to drill into some random spot to install a switch that looks way out of place. Curious about options.

Thanks

I ordered them with the car (as well as the lighted sill trim plates which are very nice) and they are pretty slick. I am not sure if there is an actual switch that comes with the kit because I am not sure the dealer actually installed mine the right way. Mine are slaved to the headlights, and come on whenever the headlights are selected via the 'auto' or 'on' functions. The brightness is adjustable via the main cluster/panel light dimmer knob.

This is a really bad picture, but they are pretty bright if you turn them all the way up. Last year when I bought the car the website said they come in red only, but mine are blue. So there is that too.

Hmm, that's the other thing- I'm not sure how I'd want mine set up. I know some tie them to the dome light but I don't want that. I don't want them on all the time either. I'd like to be able to turn them on and off as I please. Not sure how doable that is.

Yeah when I ordered them I assumed that they only came on when you opened a door. I keep my instrument cluster and screens pretty dim (turned up to max for that picture above) so the light coming from the footwells is about perfect for me. Enough to know they are there and to see your feet a little, but not enough to distract from the road or take away your night vision. I do wish that the little LED in between the map lights was blue. And I also wish the accents on the instrument cluster were blue too, as I have a blue car and it looks kind of strange having some random red thrown in.

I thought the instrument stuff was adjustable, though? Seems like I recall seeing options in the menus

I mean the actual colored plastic speed/level increment ring with lights behind it. You can be assured that the FIRST thing I did when I sat in the seat to drive it off the lot was turn off that stupid "Lets have EarthDreams and turn everything green whenever you aren't being environmentally disastrous" mode. There might be a way to change the color of that white ring around the speedo, but after I killed the eco-meter-thinger, I haven't been back to mess around with it.

Really only took you 10 minutes?
Yeah! Like literally, 10min just to place them and plug them in. I'm even ashamed it took that long lol but I was being careful so not to rupture anything behind the center console. Had everything wired up and ready for like.. a month.. lmao I had the entire thing hanging on my door and one day I was like "alright I'm gonna do this" lol. I'd make an install video but I really don't wanna take everything out to start over. I actually have a video of me explaining how I have it wired and whatnot but it sucks, and I haven't uploaded it. I'll make a new one soon and will be sure to link you (and the rest of DA) to it.

Yea it look me 15 minutes. And I love the look of the OEM ones. They are subtle and such. My 2011 came with a button to turn them off completely. (Miss that a bit) but you hardly notice when you are driving.

Was going to get door sills, however, decided not to. I might get the non-illuminated ones.

Cool, thanks.

Yeah I got the non illuminated door sills. Just stick on and they look great. Illuminated would be better but I didn't want to deal with it.

The oem kit is awfully expensive. Not sure I wanna pay that much.

It might be a little expensive but you are confident that it'll work properly. Also If you do the install yourself you can save an hour labour.

Word. I keep mine on the absolute lowest brightness 100% of the time. I'm actually considering swapping the blue strips for orange ones, just to see what that'd look like in my car. My dad's Lexus has orange ones in the front footwells and they look great, and very subtle as well! Although I think they're just single-diode flush-mount LEDs instead of entire strips. I haven't gotten a chance to look under there.. but yeh.

I wired my LED strips to an IR control module too so I can turn them off, change the brightness, make them flash (and I never do this), all at my own discretion

There's always the option of getting that LEDGlow kit, which is a LOT cheaper than the OEM! There's the DiodeDynamics kit as well. Or you can go the route I took and make it up as you go, using unbranded stuff. I haven't had an issue!... yet! Lol

Yeah i see most the pcs you got can be had on amazon a la carte. Ill prob just di that. I do wanna add a switch, though.
Both the LEDGlow and DiodeDynamics ones have controllers with remotes that allow you to switch them on and off and do other silly things with them haha. So does mine :wink

I haven't did it yet, but in my TL I did footwell lights. When opening the door they would come on. My buddy also added a switch on his and put them in the rear looks pretty Oem as you cannot see a strip or anything unless you get up under there.

Where do you put that big control module, though?
My control module is a low-profile inline one, and is only about 1.5" long (if that), so its not big at all. It fits right behind the under-dash cover. I'll try to take a picture tomorrow, but this is a picture of the actual module

Nice. Originally I wanted to be fancy and tap into the dome light circuit but I gave up on that... however if I were to redo it, I'd definitely tap into that circuit. Was far too paranoid back then when I actually did it but I'm a bit more willing now lol.
