Someone apparently ran into my car in the parking lot today. I came out to a paint chipped and slightly dented rear bumper.

It looks like the car had a front license plate and the screws caused the paint to chip but the rest of the plate created this mold of it on my rear bumper (its hard to see in the pictures but when it hits the light, its bad)...why did honda give us such soft paint? not sure what to do at this point but to cool down...

thoughts on repairs or home remedies... i just applied some touch paint in the mean time

They're gonna want to replace the bumper since the plastic is torn and deformed. Do you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage? A hit and run may not be held against you if it's that big a deal. Sorry this happened.

I do have this actually. Not sure how it works. I have it through geico. Have u ever had it used for something like this?

I think the driver that did it probably did it as you were walking away from your car through the parking lot. He was distracted by those blue pants :D
:banana::banana:

On a serious note, don't file it with your insurance. Same thing happened to my wife's Camaro and insurance told us it would go on the record as an 'at fault incident' (which could or could not affect rates) States may vary, policies may vary, insurance companies may vary.

I had someone do this to my old Mazdaspeed6. Hit it hard enough that I could see every single detail of their license plate in the bumper plus the word Chevrolet as well. didn't crack the paint or bumper though.

Needless to say they never got away with it. They fixed mine by heating up the plastic to get out the imprints, and then repaint. $600 Canadian, back in 2007.

It depends what state you're in. I'm in MD, and comprehensive claims aren't held against you. Check your state before you claim. Actually, I'd go to a body shop first and get an estimate to get an idea how much the repair would cost.

I used to live near the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, every year (give or take) someone would bounce off my parked car. I've had at least 5 comp claims from 2001-2004 when I moved.

Parking lots scare me! Honestly makes me kind of nervous at times, so we park towards the back of the lot where no one, or not many have parked.

Thanks for the input. I'll check my state. I live in nc.

That's crazy. I definitely see the imprint of the border of the front license plate. It's beginning to bother me.

I'll check with my state and insurance. I didn't file a report but is that something the insurance company would like to see prior?

I have State Farm, they always have required a police report to repair any hit and run type damage such as yours. Good luck!

I've had 2 cars suffer from pretty bad hit and runs. Both I was told there is a standard $200 deductible for hit and runs. As far as a police report goes I don't think you'll need one.

In 09 I had a rsx type s (such an awesome car). The front was plowed in while it was parked on the side of the street. Radiator was demolished so it wasn't drivable. My insurance company requested a police report for it. Unfortunately it ended up being totaled.

Second instance was with my mazdaspeed6 about a year ago. This ones damage was far less catastrophic. Same insurance company asked if I had a police report, when I said no they didn't seem to care.

My car was sprayed by gravel by a Virginia Department of Transportation Road Mowing operation. Did 5300 dollars damage to the entire passenger side of my new Accord (1200 miles). It has now been in the body shop longer than I have had the car. I am supposed to pick it up tomorrow in fact. I filed it against my insurance as a Comprehensive claim and will sue the state for diminished value after my insurance subrogates the body damage claim. Since its a comp claim, at least in Virginia, it has no effect on my rates.

I remember seeing an ad for a body shop that they repair bumper damage on any car for a flat $200 fee including paint. You might want to check body shops to see what they charge. The entire rubber cover will require replacement and repainting.

I park as far away as I can and walk. It is good exercise.

That was Maaco. Do NOT take your car to them. 9/10 of them are shoddy and below standard.
