Hello everyone,
Greetings to one and all. Needed your advice for buying Accord 2007, 4-cylinder. The car sub frame for most of its length is completely rusted. What kind of problems will this rust bring in future and is there a way I can remove that. The car runs great mechanically and has 127,000 miles on it. Should I buy it or give it a miss?

Please drop in your advice.
Thank you.

Agree with "mtts60", but....

When you say "rust"- do you mean a surface rust, or rusted through? I ask this because in 2014 there were some threads in the 9th gen sub-forum about "rusty control arms". It was just an unpainted part- surface rust would appear in a month or two and does not affect the car in anyway. Regardless, Honda added that part to be painted at the factory from thereon....they knew it did not "matter", but too many people did not understand that things like brake rotors will develop surface rust in a few days but it does not affect operations.

If you don't know what I mean, could you tell us which country/city you are in? If it was a car operated in road salt (like Chicago), then the price would have to be real good or I would walk.

You can find one out there with minimal to no rust. Pass on this one.

If the OP is in a prison located in the Bolivian salt flats for a B&E conviction, then no- his chances of finding a rust-free Accord are slim to none for the next 3-5 years- unless we bust him out!

I know about this because my cousin Sara in Atlanta got engaged to her (now) husband while motorcycling through there.

@enne: (...as you are a fan of BoC) By the way, they do a fine cover of Whiskey in the Jar. I've heard that song in pubs all over the world- some sing it "folksy", and some groups like Metallica rock it out. Thin Lizzy's version is rather nice.
