I realize OEM is the best, but expensive considering the overall value of the vehicle at this point. Which of the following might provide the best reliability?

SKP
BBB
AAE
Edelmann
Cardone

If you have a better recommendation please let me know what it is.

Unless rebuilt is as good as new, I plan on purchasing new.

Thanks for your advice.

Second on the rebuilt. It's pretty easy, and the aftermarket pump I got started leaking like a sieve within a few months. The rebuilt OEM pump is still leak-free after a year.
Thanks for your comment. I bought the car used and unfortunately the PO had the OEM Honda PS Pump replaced with a Cardone pump at 171k miles. It's now at a quarter million miles and leaking. If it were the OEM pump I'd rebuild it, but I don't know if it's worthwhile to rebuild the Cardone.

I took apart my aftermarket pump and it looks like it's just a OEM housing with slightly different internals in it. I'd bet a rebuild kit would fix the Cardone pump just fine.

I would get the BBB re-mfg. for $37 on RockAuto (1 left), flush the present system and install a filter before adding Honda PS fluid.

To me the value of a vehicle is not the Blue Book of the car but the reliability and safety of the car. I value more getting to where I'm going and not breaking down. I would never put an aftermarket part on a Honda even if the car is worth $1 Blue Book.

I am going on two years using a new AAE pump from Rockauto and have not had any issues whatsoever to date.

thanks for your reply. If anyone could recommend a specific filter brand/model please let me know. Also, where in the low pressure line did you install the filter?

I used a Magnefine filter on my 04 power steering but other mfg.'s make them also. What was important to me was that the filter had to have a bypass built in, some of the other filters or ones made in China didn't have a bypass. Make sure you get the one that is the correct one for the diameter of the hose. The other option would be to flush the ps system every 25K without installing a filter. Honda ps fluid or equivalent only.
