Well, I did it, I finally got a BMW I've wanted for a while now. Traded in my '21 Sport 2.0T on a 2019 330i xDrive with 21k on the odometer. I really love almost everything about it. The ride is nicer, the cabin is much quieter and the technology is a bit more advanced than my Accord. Unfortunately for me, I thought I could live with the smaller interior dimensions of the BMW, and it's almost causing me to go look for a '22 Sport 2.0T again. The BMW is really small on the inside and some of the ergonomics are compromised as a result. The cup holders are right in front of the front console pocket, so the pocket is basically useless. The 12v socket is wedged between the cup holders making it difficult to get bottles in and out. Little things I didn't notice before buying it. The math certainly won't work out to my favor and I know this going in, but the Accord was such a great vehicle that I do miss it quite a bit. I don't really have a question as I'm really just writing down my thoughts to rationalize my decisions.

Accord inventory in my neck of the woods is all but nonexistent right now. There are maybe five total among the five different Honda dealers in my area... all of which have large dealer markups. No new Accords have arrived in the past two or three weeks... which makes me wonder if Honda quietly stopped production of the 10th Generation and is preparing for the release of the 11th Generation... either that or Honda is allocating chips to their SUVs... which probably are more profitable. There seems to still be bit of supply of Pilots and Passports on dealer lots... not so much with CRVs and HRVs. Civics are in short supply too- but every once in a while a dealer will get one.

My closest dealer has 3. 2 in sonic grey and one in white. The other 3 dealers around me have none.

Just curious, did you actually take time during test drive of the BMW?

It sounds kinda insane if you’re seriously looking to trade back for a 22 Sport 2.0t, which is the same car as the car you just traded in for the BMW.

Anyways, the 2023 is just around the corner, I’d probably just wait for the new model and decide if it worth it to make the swap.

I know, it seems insane to me too but I just miss the Honda size. The BMW is great but took time to really get a feel for its size. More time than I had on a test drive.

I see. Yeah, sometimes those 15-20 min test drives aren’t really enough. But I’m sure BMW is a great driver’s car. You could just enjoy it for the time being, then if the new Accord speaks to you when it comes out, go ahead and make the swap or pick up a leftover 22 model at a discount.

I also agree you might as well see what the new model brings this fall. If you don't like the new model you can then still try to hurry and buy a 10G.

RWD definitely has more packaging challenges, the 330i has less interior space than the civic.

Thanks for sharing your experience switching over!! Unless you are stinky rich, I'd live with your decision for a few years. Taxes and depreciation are both murder. If storage is an issue, maybe an SUV is in your future? I'd guess there are a ton of benefits over the Accord as well? Congrats on your new BMW!

It's probably just buyer's remorse. If you go back to an Accord right now you'll regret losing the money on the deal.

If the only drawbacks are cupholder and 12v socket placements it just sounds like you're a little out of your comfort zone. You'll adapt soon and it probably won't bother you.

Now when that maintenance bill arrives you may be thinking about coming back to a Honda 😄

Either way, good luck!

Interesting. So I have a 9th Gen 2015 Accord V6. I have a BMW 330e xDrive on order.

I have driven a lot of cars in my quest for a replacement to my ‘15 accord.

I don’t want to go 10th Gen Accord because the 10th Gen is even bigger than the 9th which is already a bit big for me (I’ve had 10th gens as loaners from the dealer).

I was set on a Civic SI and then an Integra but they seemed a drop too small and underpowered compared to what I’m used to.

My wife has a ‘21 TLX which has the perfect interior dimensions, however, the outside is just too big for me. Having driven both the FWD and SH-AWD TLX’s, I can’t go back to FWD. Have you tried a TLX, with SH-AWD? That just may be the happy medium between the Accord 2.0T and the BMW 330ix (it has the Tech you are looking for as long as you opt for the Tech package, we had to add an aftermarket wireless Apple CarPlay adapter though) and it drives/handles more like the BMW.

I spent 2 days in a ‘18 330e overseas that I got as a rental. I really enjoyed it. I had not ever considered a BMW before.

The next best was a Jetta GLI which also had perfect dimensions (for me) inside and out. I felt that the 36k the dealers were asking was excessive besides the fact that it didn’t feel as powerful as it is on paper.

The LSD on the SI/Integra/GLI, made a big difference and I would consider them nearly as good as AWD though.

Overall I kept coming back to the BMW and so I ordered a ‘22. Some have taken delivery of ‘23 models, yet I’m still waiting, waiting and waiting. My pre-Fed Rate Increase APR is locked for 90 days and expiring soon. If they manage to deliver the car by then I might just take it.

Pretty sure the xdrives are AWD.

But, I agree - probably better off waiting to see what 2023 looks like, at this point.

I got rid of my A4 for the same reason, it was a small car. im 6'1" so was not easy getting in and out. The 3 series BMW is the same as the A4...and C class Benz. All smaller cars - almost like a civic.

My next German luxury sedan would have to be a A6 or A8L. If you want a bigger BMW, go with the 5 series or up. If you want a bigger Benz, E series or up.
I totally hear you on the fit and finish of BMW/German cars. I do agree they are superior to any Jap Sedan.
Each car will have its plus and minus. Most notably the German cars will require more repairs and are usually more pricy to repair unless you find a good indy shop.

The 3 series is a better car.

I don’t know what the problem is with size. I’m 6’3” and have zero issues with the dimensions of a 3 series or a Mini Cooper.

While I’m sure the 3 series is a very nice car, I’m not sure if the two are even comparable or meant to be compared.

The pricing alone, among other things, makes the two not comparable.

The Accord is a FWD family sedan with some luxury amenities that ranges from 26k-38k.

The 3 series, a RWD/AWD luxury sports sedan, starts at 42k and goes up to what? Almost 60k for a range topping 3 series.

Nothing wrong with either car. Each excels at their respective segment, but comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges.

While I agree with you - they are more comparable pricewise today than they have been.
In my case of a Hybrid, the local dealer wants 41K for a Honda Accord Hybrid Touring (3k markup). I ordered (still debating whether I actually take delivery) a BMW 330e xDrive MSRP 49K (which they will actually take, and some dealers will even negotiate to under MSRP by a bit) - 1K factory (loyalty - my son's car is in my name) incentive - 5.8k US Tax credit - .5K state tax credit. It starts to be in the same ballpark. If the accord was the right fit for me, I'd go that route in a heartbeat because you can keep them 10 years. The BMW will have to go after 3 or 4.

The other thing to consider is repairs on the car in a couple years. I had a convertible Mercedes I loved to drive but almost impossible to fix anything your self. Even simple parts like head lights need reprograming ( or at least use to ).

I had a guy tell me one if your the kind of guy who hands the dealership a credit card and says " fix it" then you will love a BMW or Mercedes.

Well, yes, the pricing certainly seem comparable in your case. However, not all BMWs qualify for these tax credits, only the electric variants. Honda, as far as I know, currently does not have anything that qualifies for tax credits (because they don’t have any electric cars :D). Additionally, while in your example, your dealership charges a markup of 3k for the HAH (and I’ve seen more markup being charged), it’s also possible to get a new HAH at MSRP by ordering it through the dealer (although one would have to wait). So, MSRP to MSRP, it is really a lot more (I’m not quite sure how much a similarly equipped 330i goes for exactly). Of course, if we really want a closer comparison, ie. We’d need one between a 330i e and a PHEV Accord or Accord e, if and when Honda does make them. With that said, I do think BMWs can also last 10 years - just not without a full coverage extended warranty… which also adds up to the cost difference.

I was cross shopping my 19 Accord Sport 2.0 with an Audi S5 Sportback (both used) and in all fairness I don't think are comparable in terms of being in the same category. But I get it, when it's one or the other you might as well compare. It's your wallet after all. I still love seeing S5s on the road and think "what if..." but barely drive due to covid and work from home so it was probably the more adult decision...which I hate. 😄
