Hi there
This is night #2 now with our 2021 accord and the trunk has twice randomly opened causing the alarm to go off.

I know what you’re all thinking… we pressed the key fob - but we haven’t! They were hanging up and we were sound asleep. And if it was key fob opening trunk, the alarm wouldn’t sound
At first I thought the first night someone was breaking into the car, but it happened again tonight.

I’m upset to say the least as we just messed this car. It’s a demo vehicle and 1 month old and now I feel I made a huge mistake.

what could be causing this? Clearly it’s an issue with the car because the alarm sounds too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a problem with the trunk latch or its alignment. Do the edges of the trunk line up with the other body panels?

My 9th gen I have to kinda slam my trunk in order for it fully lock down/latch... otherwise it will re-open.

Factory alarm or is there anything aftermarket (including and especially dealer installed junk) on the car?

Test the latch, can you wigglejiggle the trunk open physically without the key?

In any of the cases where the trunk opened seemingly by itself was there a body in the trunk?

Open the trunk lid.

Look on the underside of the lid for at least one pair(left & right) of rubber bump stops. Turn all of them fully clockwise(inward), then try closing the lid again. Open and repeat, turning both bump stops half a turn counter-clockwise(to the left, and outward) each time, just until you have to start slamming the lid again to shut it. Finally, turn both stops one half a turn to the right again. You have found the sweet spot for those bump stops.

Step two, if the above doesn't remedy:

Remove the plastic protective thingie surrounding the trunk latch. It should snap out. Now you should be able to see the 10-11mm bolts holding the deck latch in position. Loosen those, and you'll have up to one-eighth inch of movement in all directions. I would recommend pencilling or using a thin permanent marker to mark the edges of the latch beforehand, to mark it's factory/original location.

Adjust until the lid opens and shuts like butter!

HEY EVERYONE!
Thank you so much for all of your help and suggestions. I'm going to try all of this.
It actually appears the trunk button on the door was stuck down. This would make sense I guess as to why it would randomly open at night and set the alarm off, right?

AJ: Sounds like Honda needs to step up their quality control game with that button!

I need to watch my weight: When my 2010 keyfob is in my pants pocket, all I have to do is bend over or turn a certain way, and either my panic alarm triggers or the trunk lid is opened! This happened also with my Hyundai remote.

Anyone else’s own bulk enable them to trigger keyless functions, including remote engine start?

I had a KIA Soul for a bit and I hated that key fob. Any time I would bend down with the fob in my pocket it would trigger the panic alarm. It was clearly the position on the panic button at the bottom of the fob.

Time for us both to lose a little, lol!

Same Thing happened with me just now I’m just sitting here didn’t touch the key or anything happened randomly when I’m in the car 3-4 times trunk randomly opens 2019 Honda accord 1.5t lx

Did you mean trunk (rear) or hood (front)?

Honda has had issues with the alarm switch at the hood for numerous models. There are plenty of youtubes on it. Most folks just disconnect the switch. I had 3 nights where someone's (mine) car alarm was going off in the middle of the night. On the 4th day I happened to be walking past my car when the alarm went off and a neighbor comes over and says "that's been happening the past 3 nights." I fixed it by opening and slamming it closed.

I would guess the trunk could have the same issue.
