Hey guys and gals,

After lots of consideration and reading on Acurazine, I found a cheap mod that will help your cars sound a lot better without making the car any loader or sounding like a rice rocket.

Sorry, but this is only really for the V6 guys and the 6MT guys will probably appreciate this the most.

Here is the link

I did not do a mod writup as it's not my mod. If you want, I will repost it here, but I wanted to give credit where it was due.

I only did the state 1 mod. I just deleted the "mid muffler" out of my system, and let me tell you, the exhaust note is so much better than before. Before, our exhaust systems did a great job covering all of the sounds, but this lets some of that rumble come out. It's the sweetest between 2-3k.

The cost for me=35 dollars at an independant muffler shop!.

Any questions, hit me up, but that thread will tell you everything you need to know.

Can y'all click on the link? I wasn't sure as I'm a member and you all are not. If it doesn't work, I'll repost the information as they have links of the different stages of sound. Let me know and I will repost it if you'd like.

Yup, that is the condenssed DIY. The clips explain the steps required to induce the sound.

From what I remember, the 7th gen V6 has a very similar exhaust system, so I would imagine that both would sound very similar.

I would imagine the AV6 to sound more raspy than throaty since it has a smaller displacement engine. It doesn't matter anyway since I like my quiet exhaust. :)

I just figured I'd put this out. I did the stage 1 mod, which is just removing the "mid muffler" out of the system. You really can't tell unless the windows are down and you are in the 2-3k rpm range. It just sounds nicer. Windows up, no difference in the car.

So far, I'm a big fan. One of the few things I wanted in the TL. I figured the 6MT model should have an exhaust sound every once in a while.

Hmm something I'll probably consider down the road, but want to wait as my car is still just a "baby" and I don't want to do anything to the warranty unless I feel I have to. Also depends on how much money I have down the road, as I might just splurge and go full catback system or something.

I find it hard to believe some people in here don't like the G35's exaust note. Atleast imo its one of the best sounding stock systems out there right now, esp when compared to the Accord. I will admit though having a near silent exaust system is nice at times though, as there have been a few times were I have gone past a cop (or approached a cop) above the posted limit, and since he didn't hear me coming (plus the fact that its "just an Accord" and with my HFP setup I can brake without the front dipping much) they never even flinched.

Thanks Stevencrosbie for posting this.

If you can tell me how to delete engine noises altogether THEN I would be interested!! lol..

No problem. I figured you'd enjoy this.

Oh...yeah...the TL isn't as stealth...so I have to be careful not to draw attention from cops. :paranoid:

Compilation of all stages of exhaust resonator modification.

So far, there are 4 stages of this exhaust mod.

Stage 1.
Least noticeable in exhaust note increase.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe. Everything else remains stock.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $30-$60 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 2.
A tad louder than stage one, a bit more pronounced tone.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Magnaflow resonator part# 10416.
Magnaflow resonator is a 14" long resonator, which dampens and changes the note of the stock exhaust a bit more, thus you get a bit more loudness/tone.
Cost: Magnaflow resonator costs around $60. Install ranges from $60 -$90 w/ aluminized pipping.

Stage 3.
(Tone result TBA)
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Dynomax resonator part# WLK-24215.
Dynomax resonator is a 12" long resonator, which is a bit shorter and less dampening than the magnaflow resonator, thus it should give you a bit more loudness/tone than stage 2.
Cost: Dynomax resonator costs around $40. Install ranges from $60 - $90 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 4.
Loudest setup out of all 3. Has a bit of a rasp, similar to M3 exhaust setup.
Stock exhaust.
Remove Mid-muffler. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $40 - $60.

Media.

Steage 1: Revving
Staqe 2: Revving
Stage 2: Revving Pt. 2
Stage 2: Inside
Stage 2: Drive By
Stage 3: Window Down Driving
Stage 3: Drive by 1
Stage 3: Drive by 2
Stage 4: Revving

Alright, like I said, this is not my mod. I took it from aznbo187 from Acurazine. Amazing study so far and he will update it with the stage 3 mod when he gets time.

I have the stage 1. Just the mid muffler removed and I think that is all I want. I never wanted a noisy car, but I did want a little deeper sounding exhaust and this has done it. You have to listen though to hear it, so most people will never even notice (includes dealer/people who you might sell the car to later on).

The links do a pretty good job capturing the sounds. I can do mine, but probably will not happen for a couple days. These are just as good though.

Watch out, those of you in the north - salt will eat right through cheap aluminized steel. After watching this happen on one of my older cars (aluminized replacing a section of my OEM stainless steel exhaust system) I'd never consider it as long as I lived up here.

BTW Stage 1 sounds cool, but as you move up the stages it just sounds kinda ricey... I don't know, I'm particularly sensitive to it (I hated how my old Civic sounded, even totally stock), but I just don't know why you'd buy a car like the TL to make it sound like that. If you like it don't mind me, I'm just a cranky old man.

Yeah, I don't care for the others either. That's why I just did the stage 1. You really can't tell in the car unless a window is down or you turn the sterio off.

Just right if you ask me.

Hmm...I will admit after listening I do like Stage 1. Stage 2 is "ok", then 4 is just way too raspy for my tastes.

GRdotNet kinda hit the nail on the head though...my primary reason for not doing this right away is largely due to the fact that this is a "show mod" only really (doesn't increase your hp/tq really) and also adds to the chances something could rust out on you down the road, esp for those who live with salt for so many months of each year.

For anyone who is interested, I've attached a pic below of a 7th gen V6 Accord coupe's underbody (sedan should probably be the same) with the same parts labelled as the TL in the pics Stevencrosbie posted:

In case anyone is wondering, I pulled the pic from Honda.com's website by capturing a still from the "expanded" 3D view of the coupe. :D
