Does anyone know of a DIY for the water pump replacement on a 4cylinder Accord- mine's an '04. I'm planning to do the serp. belt and PS pump and thought I'd see how much of a pain the water pump is.

Thanks.

No, it's functioning fine, I just figured I'd see how much of a pain it is. I have to replace the Steering pump, serpentine belt, and belt tensioner and I wouldn't want to remove all that stuff and put it back to find out that I have to take it all off again if the water pump craps out in 10,000 miles.

More than likely, I'll see what's involved, it'll either be really easy or really hard and I won't do it anyway because it's working just fine!

I believe its driven by the timing chain, so its much more involved than you are doing for the surpetine belt change, but Im not as familiar with your 7th gen as my 6th gen.

Nice how to - thanks for posting it. Any idea on the lifespan of the OEM water pumps? My i4 ('06 model) has 93k on her with no signs of leaking.
I'll put it simply. It can last the life of the car, is relatively easy to change and will give you prior warning before failure. Leave it alone till you need to change it. If you have $$$ burning a hole in your pocket, I have an Paypal account.

Coolant is to water pump what oil is to engine. Change the coolant every few years, your pump lasts longer.

218K on my original. Change the fluid at recommend intervals and your OK.

All original here too.

Oh wow. Be interesting to see what the coolant looks like

I'm sure it looks fine. There's no reason it would change it's look that I can think of. I've had the same coolant in my Suburban since 2005.

EDIT: Scratch that. I had to change it about 3 years ago cuz the water pump started leaking. So it was in there 10 years and has been in there 3 now. You don't have to change coolant at a time interval. You can buy a tester that will tell you if it has lost it's super powers.
