No problems when I started work but when I went to leave and started the car the exhaust was ridiculously loud. I have never modified it but it sounded like I tried. Sounded like it was coming from the front of the car as well. The engine light is steadily glowing. Still able to drive and everything but still concerned so I didn't go more then 20m. I don't know much about cars unfortunately so I'll probably be taking it in tomorrow and who knows how much it will cost.

Anyone ever had something similar happen?

About 118,000

Not sure what either of those are, are they tough fixes?
A stolen cat means someone took your catalytic converter. Look under the car and see if there are any gaps in your exhaust system. If so, then someone got under there while your car was parked and cut out your converter. It's not a tough repair, but it is expensive.

A leaky flex pipe would be a cheaper part to replace.

It was a stolen cat. Thanks for everyone's tips. It was stolen at a mall and there are cameras so hopefully insurance can do its thing.

I believe I'm just going to get a pipe fitted and not a replacement cat. Not in the budget right now and I have to drive to work and back. Good to know though!
Is that legal in Canada?

Not even slightly, but if you can find the right person…
Given creative interpretation of the law, removing a cat is illegal, but installing a test pipe in place of one that was already removed is less illegal.
I had no idea, the shop just recommended it to me as the cheaper option and I agreed. I doubt they will do any emissions test in BC anytime soon. But if they ever do anything like that I'll probably have a different car by then

Yep, I use to park in the quietest or furthest corner of parking lots. Not anymore since this CAT nonsense went ballistic. I now park where the foot traffic is the most :(
Sorry about your car man, my buddy lost two OEM CATS to these bastards on his Element

I would have a cage welded around it, cheaper in the long run if insurance doesn't cover it.
He had the CATClamp on. But this was a professional crew, they arrived in a truck, posted lookouts, had a diamond cut rotary saw and went to work. You can see the sparks flying on the surveillance video. It took all of 45 seconds.

That noise is almost always a part missing, broken off or holes - and then the smoke affects sensors and the engine light comes on.
