I guess someone in a parking lot decided to tap me and a small dent resulted in the plastic bumper. I read that heating it up might help you pop it back out, but where the dent is, it's hard to get to.

Guess I'll be going to body shops tomorrow. I shouldn't have to replace the whole bumper for one dent or will I?

This makes me sick. [emoji22]

How can anyone give you input if we can't see the damage? A pic would be helpful.

Considering it's not a sharp dent, I would think (in my uneducated opinion) that a body shop would be able to smooth that out. I don't think you'll have to replace the bumper. And it looks like there's only one little chip in the paint so you could probably have that repaired too.

Looks repairable. I'd get a few estimates and just pay out of pocket instead of turning it in to insurance. Probably won't cost more than your deductible, unless it's very low.

The car parked behind me hit my Accord's rear bumper, leaving the pentagonal impression of a license plate bolt and removing some paint. I got this fixed by using the mobile paint repair guy that my dealership uses to freshen up the used cars they have for sale. It helps to be on good terms with the Honda service advisor to allow you to pay out-of-pocket for using their mobile repair guy.

I recall the cost was between $150-200 for the fill, sand, repaint, and blend. I waited at the dealership and was ready to pick up the car after 2 hours once the repaint had dried (but not yet cured).

This was several years ago. I cannot even remember where on my bumper was the original repair and repaint! It was that good!

One thousand deductible will cover the bumper out of your pocket. I would recommend to ask the shop removing the bumper and straighten it out without re-painting the whole bumper if you can't do it yourself. I can't really make it out of the photos, but it looks like the dent created a hump on the bumper without cracks. Re-painting will almost always yield an disappointment in a long term, and that is assuming the ,impossible, color was exactly matched. It could match at the moment, but the fading rate won't be the same, and the poor clear coat is always a problem. It doesn't matter how much you are going to pay for the re-paint, no one is going to do it perfectly right for you. Even getting the oem paint that matches the paint code on the door won't match the color.

Boiling water and upside down air duster?

Plenty of youtube videos some people use heat guns and air duster. I have never had any luck with it but it may be worth a try.

Went to a body shop for an estimate. $500

He doesn't seem to think he will have to paint the whole bumper.

Not sure what I'm going to do at this point. It would be a whole lot cheaper if I just got over it and left it as is.

That also makes me sick. Its sad just how careless people are. Just sit in a parking lot and just watch how people open their doors or back up their cars. It's practically inevitable.

Have you tried taking it to a paint-less dent repair shop?

Look on the bright side...at least you didn't come out to find this!

Before you go to any body shop, look up paintless dent repair services in your area. Most of the time it's a guy who will actually come out and look at your car and then pop out any dents on the spot. It's not super cheap, but a lot cheaper than a body shop and no painting involved. When it works it's like magic. I don't know how good they are with plastic though vs. popping out metal dings, but def worth looking into.

The upside of just having the damage on plastic is that you don't have to worry about rusting. Just put some touch-up over the chip and good to go.

Maybe the damage doesn't show up too well in the pictures, but that's definitely not something worth replacing the bumper for. Wait til you get hit a few more times at least. :p

Save the new bumper for when someone REALLY makes you angry! Then back dat @ss up into their car/house/shins/etc.

I feel your pain.

He's not replacing the whole bumper. I also researched the dent repair guys and the website for the one near me (which wasn't all that near me) only repairs dents in the metal.

Stay tuned.

lol, the car was like that when I first got it. A landscaping truck backed into it while it was parallel parked on our street.
