I came across something interesting the 2017+ Civic Type R weighs 3,075 to 3,121 lbs curb weight a 2013 V6 automatic Accord is between 3400-3500+ lbs. Yet looking at reviews the 2013 v6 sedan automatic ran 14.1 @ 101 mph the Type R has 30 more horsepower and weighs a lot less yet runs 14 seconds flat and 1 mph faster some sites had it at 102.5 others 102. I would expect it to be much quicker/faster any thoughts? Anyone have v6 times to compare I have yet to track my car. Thanks!

My 6-6 coupe did 13.9 after a few simple mods most important of which was the KTuner tune. With better traction it could do better. But better traction would also probably mean things would start breaking, so I'm happy as is.

The newer automatic transmissions are not like the old ones with slow shift points. A 7th gen Accord was over a second slower for an auto compared to the manual; same engine. That gap decreased significantly for the 8th and even 9th gen more so. Automatics can easily be quicker & without room for error like human counterparts.

Your original titled question about underrated V6? Yes, they did so from the factory for multiple reasons. One being the “gentlemen’s agreement” in Japan.

More power and less weight on a FWD car probably hurts the launch

Just a minor correction: the 0-60 speed gap is huge on the 8th gen V6, roughly 5.6 secs manual vs. 7.0 secs automatic (depending on which publication you believe). I believe they closed that gap on the 9th gens.

Actually I think the AT's in the 9th gen were technically .1 faster than the MT's in the 1/4 mile.

But I'd still rather have a MT. I like being able to set up passes by having the RPM's where I want them when I mash the pedal.

I can usually get it to 6.8sec in my V6 Auto but my problem is tire spin. When I hammer it from a dead stop I get so much tire spin in 1st and 2nd gear. It settles down after I hit 3rd. I even have new(er) tires.

It also depends on how lucky you are. We have (2) 2015 Accord EX-L V6’s that we bought new. My kids that are of driving age all say my wife’s is much faster than mine. I’d say hers is about as much as .3 seconds faster to 60 (never did a full throttle to 60, hers feels faster and that’s my guesstimate of how much faster) and the gap widens from there.

I notice with traction control off it’s much slower than with traction control on especially doing 0-60 I just spin to 40 mph. I’m wondering how it’ll do at the track with tc set to off.

Well, perhaps don't just mash the throttle from a stop?
