I have 2016 Accord EXL with Sensing and Navi.
One of the navigation feature on this car is that it tracks where have I been. It keeps a log for your routs for entire day and you can select them later if you want to go to the same route. It seams like it keeps the log and it is sorted by dates.

2 questions, what was Honda thinking?
second how can i turn it off so it does not track my every route?

1. The next time I have lunch with Toshiaki Mikoshiba I will ask him "What was Honda thinking?"

2. You mean tracking your every route like your cell phone tracks your every route?

1. The same thing other automakers like GM have been for decades (OnStar) - Honda is just late to the party.

2. The answer is found in the 2016 Honda Accord Navigation Manual.

If you knew what else Honda and others know about you and your vehicle, you'd probably forget all about this particular concern.

If location history makes you paranoid, I suggest that you don't read the following:

Service Diagnostic Recorders on the first page of the Owner's Manual.

"This vehicle is equipped with service-related devices that record
information about powertrain performance."

American Honda's Vehicle Data Privacy Practices

Here are some things your vehicle may record and transmit to Honda and others:

"• oil life, odometer mileage, fuel level, miles remaining to empty, dashboard warning lamps, tire
pressure, diagnostic trouble codes (e.g., electronic system generated trouble or failure codes),
vehicle maintenance status and other vehicle status and diagnostic information;
• trip log information, including trip start time and end time, trip start and end location, trip
distance, and fuel consumed; and
• airbag system status, including airbag deployments and the relative change in velocity (delta-v)
associated with the airbag deployment

• your search content;
• account access information, including information about anyone making a call from the vehicle
or under your account; and
• call history information, including the date, time and duration of call, and any response
specialist’s notes written during a call;
• smart device calendar data, such a date/time/location of scheduled events (for use in navigation
system or system improvements);
• navigation system settings and usage;
• audio system settings and usage; and
• connectivity systems (e.g., embedded TCU, wifi hot-spot) settings and usage.

• vehicle speed; vehicle acceleration and deceleration
(and associated pedal positions);, engine speed;, direction of travel; time of travel; steering
angle; yaw rate; vehicle control systems settings, position and usage; and Honda Sensing/Acura
Watch system settings and usage"

The short answer is "no".

The LX does have a Service Diagnostic Recorder, but whatever information it records can only be retrieved from the vehicle through physical access.

Wow, like Honda really gives a crap about your routes.

I am sure Honda is busy selling your information to Russia.

Before you buy a tin foil hat, give this a read:

I don't understand why ridicule when this question is asked. It's a valid question, and there is apparently an answer in the manual or what not.

Still - I'm not sure what's with all the tin foil hat stuff?

I totally agree that phones (especially Android, unless modified) are a much worse invasion of privacy than Honda HU. That's not to say that we can still not try to do better with what we have and get educated on how to do it, if we so desire.

People were joking about tin foil hats before Snowden too, you know.

google maps has my history for the past 2 years or more
Yeah, I think it depends on how long you've had an Android phone or Google account. Mine has sporadic location history data going all the way back to 2012 when I bought my first Android smartphone (Galaxy S3). Kinda scary, but at least if I'm ever falsely accused of a crime (however unlikely), I can use my phone's location data to get me off the hook LOL.

But in this case if someone barrows my car that person has the ability to know where I have been.
Phones, GPS, Onstar, etc all have been tracking but if someone barrows my any of the equipment they can't just get the info but touch of a screen. In this case all the information is right there for everyone to see.

Don't let people you don't trust borrow you car, then? Jeeze.

I agree. Lending someone else your car is a bad idea in general. I personally kept that to a bare minimal, and in all cases I was also present in the car.

I have recently read a story where a guy lent someone his car and they disappeared with the car.

Don't forget these cars use Android in the HU. So Google is probably keeping track too, like they can on a phone, even if you don't have built-in Navi and don't use Google maps, just by connecting your car to some WiFi network. :devil
