I want to change out the factory unit with a Bluetooth enabled system. I'm not super handy so how easy is the install? How much of the dash/console has to come off? Wiring, etc?

Buy one of these

You can use electrical tape if you want, or use those wire connectors and crimp them.

I went and to my local bestbuy and bought a Pioneer MVH-X380

There was actually an opened box one at Bestbuy for 50 dollars go take a look, you might find something like that.

I miss my '99... That said, all you need is a Metra harness and the harness for the new radio. Connect all the cables together, remove the brackets from the factory radio, screw them into the new one and then install the new radio.

Going to take it and get it installed. Head unit would be easy enough but i want to run the bluetooth mic up near the rearview mirror and i'm not comfortable removing all the things necessary for that...

I would just mount it over the flat area in front of the steering wheel. Either drill a small hole to fish the wire through, or just use double sided tape to secure the mic and run the wire to camouflage it so it's not noticeable.

No need to reinvent the wheel on this one.

That's actually a GOOD idea LOL I might actually go do that tomorrow now.

Ya good call on getting it installed, without the mic the install would be fairly simple with slightly more expensive plug and play harness and a deck dash kit.

You don't need a dash kit for that car. I had a single din clarion head unit with the factory pocket and I was able to install the radio and it looked like it was meant to be there.

@Spacemonkee23 would know a crap ton about this also. I'm sure he can provide some valuable input :).

I don't know jack about Bluetooth or audio stuff, but I installed a Sony HU and speakers in the front doors of my '99, it was very easy considering my lack of experience installing this kind of stuff. I ordered a HU, wiring harness, speakers and dash kit off of eBay for about $190 shipped, all from the same seller. Their eBay store made it very easy to find parts that would fit my Accord. Put it all together myself. Interior trim panel removal tools would come in handy, too.

I didn't do a writeup because I went in completely blind and just followed the instructions that came with the HU.
