Ah yes, like when I go car shopping and the used engine bays are covered in 2 gallons of cheap rubber/plastic protectant.
Last time I popped a hood on a used car for sale and I saw that it was freshly doooshed in that junk, I immediately closed the hood. Then I reached out to the salesman, shook his hand, said "Thanks for your time. I'm not interested", and left.

I was going to tell you that CM6, CM7, etc. are guitar chords, but nah! Here you go, man. https://hondacodes.wordpress.com/complete-honda-chassis-code-list/

Thanks for this piece of gold @jimijam. Spent way too long staring at it. So the CRX was an ED9, amazing never knew that life changed. Now I can think of Preludes instead of Star Wars when I hear BB8. Hah@guitar chord reference.

So I have CM7 and you have CM8 b/c you are better than me. I wonder what the "SUA" means for the CM5/6. Maybe So. America. Googling "SUA Accord" takes me to law school.

Your upgrade link in the signature for i4 to V6 conversion was a great read. I lost it from "you could just buy a whole V6" on. It is not a difficult task though, takes an afternoon (5 mins) and you don't need a lift.
(I did not do this, the site does say that it will fit the rear of my vehicle)

On the transmission. If I am going 50 and gently hit the accelerator there is a bit of slip when it attempts to shift down. Has me worried. Maybe trans fluid change is overdue but I'm sure it is something worse.

Thanks so much for your helpful sticky and all information. Much appreciated :)
OUR helpful sticky....OUR.....

As you learn, do a decent write-up on something you tackled- even if it is "small". Pass on the knowledge to newbies. Use pictures, part numbers, and an organized writing style.

If you create a new write-up, we can link it. If you improve on an existing write-up, give the old one credit and we can make your new write-up the sticky.

Hey, great thread! just bought a 2004 Honda accord coupe. it has a trunk leak. so i tore out the entire interior. seats, trim, everything but the carpet. I've used this site so often today I just wanted to say thanks guys! I appreciate all the helpful info. i will let you know how the project goes.

...Been a while since I've been on a car forum; feels great to write about car-related interests again :). I recently purchased a 2003 Accord 2.4L w/ 5spd (116,000kms) in October and have been working on it with haste as winter sets in to work out the major kinks for the first year. It's been a challenge, but the car has also been a lot of fun and the forums have been super helpful as I work through some of the items on the list.

Great thread. Looking forward to dropping a line in the future.

Warning for anyone who bought a high(er) mileage accord: the tumblers (locking mechanism) in the lock get worn easily, locking you out of your own car unless you have the fob. And of course the Accord only comes with a driver side key hole.

You probably will get an early warning---as the tumblers get worn, it gets harder to unlock the door and you have to fidget the key to get the lock to move.

So if your key fob battery dies (CR1616 battery), get it replaced as soon as possible. Otherwise you'll be stuck in the driveway realizing that you have to get a CR1616 battery. just like me, lol.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I've got a similar (opposite?) issue. My power locks have started to intermittently glitch out on my 05 Accord LX 5AT sedan with almost 286k miles. The power locks will make a noise like they're about to open when I try to open them with the fob, but the lock thingies on the top inside of the doors don't pop up and unlock, but they do pop up and unlock if I put the key in the driver's door lock and twist the key to the unlock position. Any ideas on what the cause and fix would be?

Excellent thread, thanks for the sticky. Joining the Honda family with a 2005 Accord EX 4cyl as a first car for my daughter. It's got a lot of miles @ 270k but runs good and her commute is only 5 miles each way to school and about 10 to work and friends etc., pretty local. My son bought an 08 a couple years ago and it's been a tank for him so we hope she can get a couple years 15-20k out of this one without breaking her savings. Thanks for reading I'll post of 2 issues I may need help with but got a good part of the basic list done in the OG post.

That's awesome! Exactly what I want, an 05 EX. I do want a manual but those are so hard to find. Does her engine leak or burn oil? If so how bad?

I'm she he can get more than 15-20k miles out of it. These cars were built pretty well. The way car prices are, I would encourage her to keep it as long as possible. Good gas mileage too.

I brought a neglected 05 LX 2.4L (170K) for brother as he slid his car into guard rail on ice. From his co worker for 1K almost 5 yrs ago. He got into a nice Fit from AZ so gave me the Accord. He did tune up at Honda for 1K. I did Rack & Pinion, Power Steering pump, Compliance Bushing, Adjustable camber kit on rear, tires, KTUNED helped all around, tint, new windshield, main window controller/drivers door actuator blah blah. Mechanic added huge transmission cooler bypassing radiator transmission cooler. Drain and filled transmission 3-4 times as it needed it. Honda fixed all oil leaks they could find and I didn't fix but missed squeaky idler pulley when replaced belt. PCV and other minor thing like new oil cap and O ring for gas cap. Wife avoided a dog and went into ditch on Hwy. It don't look like much but runs good just burns oil so check level every 100 Miles or so. So like 6K or more in repairs.
AC compressor went out this yr but OEM so probably 19 yrs old so got another Denso. Japan built car, learned buying idler pulley.
Ethanol free gas here ;) as it helps MPG and better for cars. pure-gas.org to find stations.

Wife really likes car but enjoying 05 Insight CVT a lot as daily driver to save gas. Had Accord easy over 100MPH (maybe 120 for a little bit) in an emergency. I do think I'm a Honda Fan since buying 04 Saturn Vue V6 AWD (Poor man pilot). Now 13 Pilot EXL AWD (Also KTUNED), also my 01 Insight MT (need to use Lithium conversion kit on hybrid Batt).

Picked up a Cali 2003 EX 2.4 AT in November, 2023 at 192,533 miles. Well maintained by prior owner. Oil and filter changes with Mobil1 every 5K miles. Transmission serviced every 30K.
As of today, odometer is 194,876. Has newer OEM cat, as original was stolen under prior owner. About time for tires, but will need an alignment first. Burns oil maybe 1 quart per 1.2K, Interior excellent. Leather. Everything works. Has had starter & Belt replaced. Is there anything I ought to be aware of at this mileage as regards suspension or other?

Bushings / end links on the front / rear sway bars. PS fluid changed ? PCV valve changed ? Sounds like you have a EX-L. Timing chain tensioner replaced ? Your seat belts carry a lifetime warranty, don't let the dealership tell you otherwise. Spark plugs due @ 100K, BG - EPR before an oil change may help in reducing the oil usage, it will also open up any clogged oil return passageways - BG EPR® Engine Performance Restoration® - Welcome to DA, Congrats on your purchase.

Digging further into the records: OEM PCV installed 193,250. OEM cat 191,824. New sparkplugs 187,881. Valve cover gasket 187,600. Gates drive belt 180,500. Downstream O2 sensor 177,027, Transmission Filter 174,000. IACV cleaned 173,000. P/s pump inlet O-Ring 130,000. IACV (OEM) replaced 129,500. Meticulous records by prior owner. Thanks KW for the suggestions above.

Thank you so much for posting all of this information!! We are about to do an engine and motor swap from my wrecked 03 V6 to an 05 V6 with a bad transmission. I’m still sick over the wreck because that 03 was my moms and only has about 75K miles on it and in perfect condition inside and out before a fender bender. I’ve been told I can’t fix it so I’m taking as much off of it as I can.
